Lake Hartwell is a favored spot for recreation, hosting Major League Fishing and other notable tournaments each year. Lake Hartwell is a man-made lake along the South Carolina-Georgia border on the Savannah, Tugaloo, and Seneca rivers, with 56,000 acres of water and 963 miles of shoreline. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers developed it as part of an $89-million flood control, hydropower, and navigation project. Lake Hartwell has more than 40 public boat ramps, plenty of camping options, and some of the best fishing in the south!
Lake Keowee is nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, which provide a majestic backdrop on the lake. Known for its spectacular mountains and emerald-green waters, Lake Keowee boasts more than 18,000 acres of water and 300 miles of shoreline. It was built by Duke Energy in the 1970s to generate electricity and provide public recreation. Duke Energy manages the dams, the lake, and the shoreline around the lake. Great parks, camping, the waterfall, and jumping off rock are just some cool things to do on Lake Keowee.
Lake Jocassee is a beautiful lake in Upstate South Carolina known for its undeveloped shoreline and clean water. The lake covers 7,500 acres and reaches a depth of 300 feet. It was created in the 1970s in partnership with the state of South Carolina and Duke Power. National Geographic named the Jocassee Gorges one of “50 of the World’s Last Great Places.” Lake Jocasse is a must-see with its more than a half-dozen waterfalls along the shoreline.
