How to Spot Termites Before They Colonize
You may be surprised to know that termites are active year-round, and the period between February and May is often referred to as “swarm season.”
Why? This period is known to have warm, moist weather – the sweet spot for termite swarmers. Eastern subterranean termites typically swarm in the spring on a warm day following rain.
What many don’t realize is just how long a colony can survive: while the queen can live more than 30 years, the colony will go on as new queens take over. That's why it's so important to stop termites in their tracks and keep them out of your home. But it all begins with swarm season.
Swarms aren't limited to the outdoors, and you can see one inside your home. If this happens, it's a good sign that you have an infestation. When termites swarm inside, they gather around light fixtures and windowsills as they search for a way out of the house to form another colony.
If you see a swarm, call a termite control professional. Termites are common in the Upstate, and it is a good idea to have regular termite protection. an ounce of prevention will go a long way!
